Oxygen is a
sign of life for humans. It is an important catalyst required for the energy of
the earth and human survival. We use Oxygen in
the process of breathing. But have you ever thought,
What would happen if the Oxygen was depleted or disappeared for just 5 seconds?
What will we do?
Can we just hold our breath for 5 seconds?
And what will happen to the atmosphere?
How does Oxygen loss affect the environment?
The Oxygen we
breathe to survive makes up about 21% of our atmosphere,
which contains 78% nitrogen and 1% carbon dioxide and other gases. Although it
is a fact that Oxygen
is not the most abundant gas in our atmosphere,
it is the most important not only for humans but also for other plants and
other organisms.
Plants, animals, water,
and we humans cannot survive without Oxygen.
Although 5 seconds seems like a short time,
we can all hold our breath comfortably. Some of us can hold our breath for 30
to 40 seconds, some even for a minute. But everything will not behave the same,
in just 5 minutes without Oxygen the
world will look completely different. Without Oxygen, our
houses, dams,
tall buildings, and any structure made of concrete will collapse in a few moments.
Oxygen is
very important for concrete. It acts as a special binding agent for concrete.
Concrete without Oxygen is
nothing but clay.
It will affect
humans as well. If you are standing outside in the heat and thinking that the
ozone layer will protect you from the harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun,
you are wrong because the ozone layer is made of Oxygen. If
the world was deprived of Oxygen for 5
seconds, the planet would become less dangerous
to live on. It can cause our inner ear to burst. The air pressure will be
reduced by 21% and our ears will not have time
to protect.
Without Oxygen, no
fire will burn and the combustion process in our vehicles will stop. All forms
of transportation, except electric vehicles, will immediately fail. Airplanes
flying high in the sky will fall on the surface of the earth, and millions of
cars running on petrol and diesel will stop on the roads.
The beautiful blue
sky will become completely dark. Between all these events, the upper layer of
the earth (crust) which is composed of 45% Oxygen, will
completely turn brown. It will continue to burn until everything is gone and
everything on the surface of the earth falls into a state of weightlessness.
Does it all sound
scary? So, let's start planting trees to maintain Oxygen
levels and take measures to stop the rapidly increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
