Earth
is like a giant magnet that has a love-hate relationship with life. Earth's
magnetic field (Geomagnetic) protects us from the harmful effects of the sun.
Every time
the north and south magnetic poles are reversed (meaning the north pole of the earth's
magnetic field come to the south pole and the south pole come to the north
pole).
Often,
they are opposite and there is a lot of variation in how long it takes for the
magnetic field to take its place. Scientists are not sure what will happen when
there is a reversal in the poles.
Maybe
nothing happens, or maybe the weak magnetic field can't compete with the solar
wind (storm) coming from the Sun,
and as a result, the Sun
consumes a large amount of the oxygen
available on Earth.
You know that humans
breathe in the presence of oxygen.
Scientists believe that the reversal of the magnetic field does not always destroy
living things, but sometimes it can happen.
